Security Council Adopts Algeria’s Resolution for Ceasefire in Gaza

ALGIERS- On Monday, the Security Council adopted Algeria’s resolution calling for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza.
The United States, which had vetoed the resolution last week, abstained from voting on Monday, enabling the resolution’s adoption.
Algeria presented the resolution with the support of seven other non-permanent members of the Council, including Malta, Mozambique, Guyana, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, and Ecuador.
China announced its support for this new resolution presented by Algeria on Monday morning. “China supports this resolution and commends Algeria and other Arab countries for their hard work in this regard,” stated Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This development marks a significant diplomatic success for Algeria and its allies, as they work towards achieving peace and stability in the region amidst escalating tensions.
