ALGIERS- Algeria restated its call for an immediate and enduring halt to hostilities in the Gaza Strip during a Security Council meeting on Thursday, aimed at putting an end to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Additionally, while reaffirming Algeria’s opposition to any proposal seeking to forcibly relocate Palestinians, Nassim Gaouaoui, Algeria’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, expressed regret during his speech that “the international community, including the Security Council, lacks the ability to halt the relentless cycle of violence that leads to death without consequence.”

Mr. Gaouaoui contended that those who believe they can suppress the desire for liberation and self-determination, and deter Palestinians from establishing their state by establishing settlements in the West Bank and Al Quds through violent means, are deceiving themselves.

The diplomat drew the attention of Security Council members to “the situation on the brink of collapse in Gaza,” emphasizing that “the decision of the World Food Programme (WFP) to suspend its operations in the northern part of the strip is further evidence of the grim fate awaiting nearly 300,000 people deprived of food.”

“Given the deterioration of the situation, this call is more urgent than ever,” he added, while also renewing support for UNRWA and all UN agencies and humanitarian personnel, who are the targets of tendentious campaigns.
