Selma Bakhta Mansouri Advocates for Agricultural Transformation at AU Summit Preparations

Algiers, Algeria | January 11th, 2025 — Selma Bakhta Mansouri, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, represented Algeria at the high-level preparatory meeting for the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on Comprehensive Agricultural Development, held in Kampala on Friday. The joint session, attended by Foreign Ministers and their Agriculture counterparts, marked a pivotal step in Africa’s collective efforts towards food security and agricultural resilience.

According to a statement released by the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kampala meeting officially adopted the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Action Plan for the period 2026-2035. This strategic roadmap seeks to build sustainable, resilient agricultural systems capable of ensuring food sovereignty across the continent.

The Kampala Declaration, issued following the meeting, underscored Africa’s resolve to achieve agricultural self-sufficiency through intensified cooperation, knowledge-sharing, and policy coordination among member states. Mansouri highlighted Algeria’s unwavering commitment to these principles, emphasizing the nation’s proactive role in advocating sustainable agricultural practices and food security initiatives at the continental level.

Mansouri further reaffirmed Algeria’s support for enhancing intra-African partnerships in agricultural development, stressing the importance of knowledge transfer, capacity building, and shared technological advancements to achieve collective prosperity.
