ALGIERS- Serbia has reaffirmed its support for the United Nations (UN) process in Western Sahara, emphasizing the importance of a “just and lasting” solution to the long-standing conflict. The Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, underscoring its commitment to a peaceful resolution of all disputes, including the issue of Western Sahara.

During a meeting with Algerian Ambassador Fatah Mahraz in Belgrade, Ivica Dacic, the Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, reiterated Serbia’s stance on the matter. Dacic emphasized the significance of the UN-led process in resolving the Western Sahara issue in accordance with international law and relevant resolutions passed by the UN General Assembly and Security Council. Serbia’s support for this process aims to achieve a fair and enduring solution to the conflict.

By restating its position on the Western Sahara conflict, Serbia aligns itself with international legal frameworks and the established resolutions that address the decolonization issue. This affirmation by the Serbian diplomatic head represents a significant step towards international legality regarding the Saharawi question. It also serves as a rebuff to the disinformation spread by the Makhzen, the Moroccan authorities, and their proposed “autonomy plan.”

The Serbian government’s commitment to the UN process in Western Sahara reflects its dedication to upholding international law and supporting peaceful resolutions to global conflicts. Serbia’s reiteration of support for the UN-led efforts in resolving the Western Sahara dispute adds to the growing international consensus on the need for a just and lasting solution to this protracted issue.

The statement from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends a positive message to the international community and the Saharawi people, reemphasizing Serbia’s commitment to the principles of justice and peace. It highlights Serbia’s willingness to engage constructively with the UN process and work towards a resolution that respects the rights and aspirations of the Saharawi people.
