ALGIERS- Algeria announced that Shawwal crescent was sighted in the country, thus, Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan, will begin on Friday.

“Friday… is the first day of the blessed Eid al-Fitr for this year,” said the National Commission for the Observation of the Lunar Crescent, gathered on Thursday evening in Dar El Imam (Algiers).

It is worth noting that the National Committee for the Observation of the Lunar Crescent, which has branches in all the provinces of the country, is made up of scholars in Islamic law and experts from the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics.

The timing of Eid is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, in accordance with the Muslim lunar calendar.

The holiday is normally celebrated by families gathering together.

Happy and blessed Eid
