ALGIERS- The Minister of Trade and Export Promotion Tayeb Zitouni stressed, Thursday in Algiers, the need to develop the distribution network for semolina and flour after the increase in the quota of soft wheat intended for flour mills, said a statement from the ministry.
The Minister’s statement came during a working meeting which he chaired at the ministry’s headquarters with a delegation from the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), led by Kamel Moula, Chairman of the Council.
The meeting, which is part of a series of coordination meetings with the various professional sectors, comes immediately after the implementation of the decision to increase the quota for subsidized soft wheat for flour mills from 40 to 100% of the production capacity of each mill nationwide.
Mr. Zitouni further affirmed that the increase in the flour mills’ quota to 100% will contribute “to flooding the national market with these widely consumed basic products, which will make it possible to put an end to speculation and the disruption of distribution,” the document noted.
The meeting, which took place in the presence of ministry officials, focused on “several issues and proposals that could inject new momentum into the commercial sector”, according to the press release.
