ALGIERS- At the recent 7th GECF Summit in Algiers, Sonatrach, the Algerian energy firm, received two prestigious awards, reaffirming its status as a leader in the global energy sector. Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi highlighted, in an interview with the Algerian Television, the significance of these accolades, stating, “These awards not only honor our company’s professionalism but also acknowledge its substantial contributions to the energy industry. They underscore Sonatrach’s distinguished legacy and pivotal role in the national economy.”
With a history dating back to its establishment in December 1963, Sonatrach has continuously set milestones within the global energy landscape. Operating as an integrated entity, the company oversees activities from exploration to marketing, boasting an extensive infrastructure that includes pipelines, refineries, liquefaction plants, and shipping vessels.
He said, “The company’s success in a competition among various gas-producing countries’ subsidiaries highlights its exceptional performance. Sonatrach’s legacy dates back to its inception in December 1963, positioning it as a pioneer in several domains within the global energy landscape.
Integrated Operations and Milestones. Sonatrach operates as an integrated entity, overseeing activities from exploration to marketing. Its extensive infrastructure, comprising pipelines, refineries, liquefaction plants, and shipping vessels, underscores its comprehensive approach to energy production and distribution.”
Hachichi emphasized Sonatrach’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating, “As the world grapples with energy challenges, Sonatrach remains dedicated to pioneering solutions. Our ambitious projects aim to enhance production capabilities and optimize resource utilization, ensuring energy security for Algeria and beyond.”
Highlighting some of Sonatrach’s notable achievements, Hachichi mentioned, “With over 21,000 kilometers of pipelines, Sonatrach facilitates the efficient transportation of liquefied gas. The company’s pioneering efforts in gas liquefaction and its role in conducting the first long-term gas sales contract globally are significant milestones in the industry.”
Looking towards the future, Hachichi outlined Sonatrach’s upcoming projects, stating, “Major initiatives include expanding production capacity and constructing a petroleum refinery in Hassi Messaoud. Additionally, we are venturing into petrochemical projects and prioritizing carbon footprint reduction, aiming to minimize emissions to less than 1% by 2030.”
