Sonatrach CEO Hachichi Engages in 5th Arab-Japanese Economic Forum, Advocates for Sustainable Energy Cooperation

Algiers, Algeria | July 11th, 2024 — Rachid Hachichi, CEO of Sonatrach, is currently undertaking a working visit to Japan to participate in the 5th Arab-Japanese Economic Forum held in Tokyo. Hachichi called for continued cooperation with both Japanese and Arab partners, stressing mutual interests in global sustainable development and ensuring equitable access to energy resources.

Alongside his participation in the forum sessions, the Sonatrach CEO engaged in meetings with counterparts from Japanese companies, including Torishima, specializing in oil services and equipment. These discussions provided an opportunity to explore potential partnerships between Algeria and Japan, particularly focusing on initiatives in green hydrogen and solar energy projects. Plans were also discussed regarding the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for an initial feasibility study.

The overarching goal of the Arab-Japanese Economic Forum is to strengthen economic ties between Japan and Arab countries through collaborative efforts across sectors such as energy security, renewable energies, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, and innovation, as highlighted by the event’s organizers.
