ALGIERS- The CEO of Sonatrach Group, Mr. Rachid Hachichi, conducted a working visit to the province of Bejaia on Wednesday, where he inspected several significant projects under his sector, the group announced in a statement.

Mr. Hachichi first visited the construction site of the seawater desalination plant project in Tighremt, located in the commune of Toudja.

44% Progress of Works

According to the technical explanations provided on-site, this new seawater desalination plant, granted by the President of the Republic as part of the generalization of seawater desalination along the entire coast of the country, has achieved a realization rate of 44%.

The Sonatrach CEO commended the teams for adopting a 24/7 shift work system in line with the directives of the country’s higher authorities to meet the delivery deadlines set for December 2024.

According to the group’s statement, this vital infrastructure, with a production capacity estimated at 300,000 m3/day, will, upon completion, meet the needs of 3 million inhabitants of the Bejaia province and neighboring regions of Bouira and Setif.

Enhancing the Performance Level of the Pipeline Transport Station

During this visit, Mr. Hachichi also inspected the Regional Directorate of Pipeline Transport Activity and the control room of the OB1 arrival station, where, after listening to the explanations provided regarding the work process, he gave instructions to enhance the performance level, emphasizing the importance of these installations, which play a central role in the transportation and marketing of fuels equipped with the latest technologies in terms of safety, health, and security standards.

The Sonatrach CEO also inspected the oil port of Bejaia, where he received a presentation on the activities of the subsidiary managing and operating oil port terminals, STH.

He also inspected the fuel port facilities of Bejaia, notably the SPM maritime buoy, which allows loading of large oil tankers at sea without accessing the port.

In this regard, Sonatrach reiterated in its statement that this Regional Directorate of Pipeline Transport Activity ensures the transportation of crude oil from the Hamra Basin region to the final arrival in Bejaia, then from Beni Mansour to the Algerian refinery (via the OB1/OG1 pipelines), as well as the transportation of natural gas from Hassi R’Mel to the final arrival in Bordj Manaiel (via the GG1 gas pipeline).

As a final point, Hachichi visited the Oil Marketing District in Bejaia, where he received a detailed presentation of the activities of this subsidiary, which caters to the needs of residents from 52 communes of the province in petroleum products.
