Algiers, Algeria | December 17th, 2024 — Milan, December 17, 2024 – In a concerted effort to oversee the implementation of Sonatrach’s strategic projects, the President and CEO, Mr. Rachid Hachichi, accompanied by a high-level delegation, conducted an official visit to Italy to assess the progress of key ventures entrusted to leading Italian firms, notably Tecnimont. The visit underscored Sonatrach’s commitment to delivering strategic initiatives on time and to the highest standards of quality.

The delegation inspected the Hassi R’Mel Gas Field Project – Phase Three, Step Two, officially launched at the beginning of this month. During his visit to Tecnimont’s headquarters in Milan, Mr. Hachichi held a high-level technical meeting with Tecnimont’s CEO, Mr. Alessandro Bernini, alongside technical and commercial teams from both parties. The meeting featured an in-depth presentation on the project’s management, highlighting critical forward-looking strategies and stressing the necessity of delivering the project within the agreed contractual timeline due to its vital role in bolstering Sonatrach’s gas production capacities.

Following the meeting, the Sonatrach delegation engaged directly with the project management team, exchanging views on the ongoing construction process. Mr. Hachichi reiterated the paramount importance of adhering to set deadlines and ensuring premium execution standards, underscoring the strategic significance of the project in Algeria’s energy supply chain.

The visit also extended to the Petrochemical Complex for Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) Production, a cornerstone project valued at $1.05 billion, awarded to Tecnimont. This state-of-the-art facility will produce 100,000 tons annually of LAB, a critical component in the manufacturing of detergents and industrial cleaning agents. With operations set to commence by the end of 2027, the complex will fulfill domestic market demands while positioning Algeria as a regional exporter of surplus production.

In addition, the delegation received an update on the Gas Extraction and LPG Processing Complex in Gharb Bagel, where construction progress has reached 70%. The project, scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025, is set to produce 1,000 tons per day of LPG and 300 tons of condensates, enhancing Algeria’s hydrocarbon production output to meet both local and international energy market needs.

Sonatrach’s proactive monitoring of these projects highlights its unwavering commitment to upholding operational excellence, meeting stringent deadlines, and ensuring compliance with the highest quality standards. Speaking on the sidelines of the visit, Mr. Hachichi emphasized the critical role these developments play in achieving Sonatrach’s long-term strategic objectives.

“These projects reflect Sonatrach’s pivotal mission to secure Algeria’s energy future, diversify production, and reinforce its competitive edge in global markets,” stated Mr. Hachichi.

By solidifying partnerships with key international players like Tecnimont and maintaining rigorous oversight, Sonatrach continues to position itself as a leading force in the global energy landscape while contributing to Algeria’s economic growth and energy security.
