Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi Meets with High-Level ExxonMobil Delegation at Gastech Conference in Houston

Algiers, Algeria | September 20th, 2024 — Rachid Hachichi, CEO of Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company Sonatrach, held a high-profile meeting with a senior delegation from ExxonMobil during his participation in the Gastech Global Energy Conference in Houston, United States, according to an official statement from Sonatrach on Friday.
As part of the Gastech program, Hachichi visited ExxonMobil’s headquarters in Houston on Thursday, where he met with a delegation led by John Ardil, Vice President in charge of Exploration and New Opportunities. This visit included a tour of ExxonMobil’s Operational Innovation Center, which specializes in greenhouse gas detection technology, as well as the company’s drilling sample analysis laboratories.
The meeting provided an opportunity for ExxonMobil’s senior representatives to present a detailed overview to the Sonatrach delegation, focusing on the development of energy fields in both the United States and Argentina. The presentation outlined key strategies and advancements in these regions, reflecting ExxonMobil’s commitment to expanding its energy portfolio while adhering to sustainable practices.
Following the presentation, a joint steering committee meeting was held, aimed at implementing the directives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Sonatrach and ExxonMobil in May 2024. The MoU focuses on collaborative energy development initiatives, and the meeting discussed a common interest development plan that emphasizes the exploration and development of shared energy resources.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to operational excellence, technological innovation, and environmental stewardship. The discussions underscored the importance of adopting best practices in sustainability to drive long-term energy solutions while mitigating environmental impacts.
