Algiers, Algeria | November 30th, 2024 — In a proactive move to ensure the swift recovery and continued safety of operations, Rachid Hachichi, CEO of Sonatrach, visited the Alrar Gas Processing Facility in the El-Oued region of Illizi on November 30, 2024. His visit came in response to the incident that occurred on November 27, 2024, at the facility’s Line 1 of production, which, fortunately, did not result in any human casualties. The visit highlighted Sonatrach’s unwavering commitment to operational safety and efficiency, alongside the rigorous measures already set in motion to mitigate the impact of the event.

During his visit, Mr. Hachichi conducted a detailed inspection of the affected production line, where he received a comprehensive technical briefing. The report outlined the immediate actions taken to isolate the damaged line, ensuring that the three other production lines at the Alrar plant continued to operate without interruption. The plant’s strategic response involved isolating the compromised line to secure the stability of ongoing processes and prevent any further risks.

Furthermore, Mr. Hachichi urged the team of expert investigators to conduct a thorough inquiry into the root causes of the fire. His call for a meticulous investigation underscores Sonatrach’s commitment to identifying the underlying factors of the incident to prevent its recurrence and enhance the company’s safety protocols.

Subsequently, Mr. Hachichi convened a meeting with key stakeholders, including the plant’s management and technical teams, to evaluate the effectiveness of the response measures and discuss the strategy for the successful resumption of the three unaffected production lines. The discussion centered on ensuring the restoration of full operational capacity as quickly as possible, with Mr. Hachichi reinforcing the necessity of strict adherence to safety standards throughout every phase of the recovery process.

During the meeting, Mr. Hachichi commended the swift and efficient response of the emergency teams, highlighting their professionalism in containing the situation and maintaining safety at the site. He reiterated that the safety of employees and the integrity of the facility remain the top priorities for Sonatrach.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Hachichi emphasized the importance of bolstering crisis management training programs and ensuring the provision of all necessary resources for the safe operation of the facilities. He also praised the workers at the Alrar site for their determination and resilience, urging them to continue their efforts in inspecting and monitoring the remaining production lines. With a spirit of optimism and collective responsibility, Mr. Hachichi expressed confidence that the facility would resume full operations in the coming days, with the three unaffected lines set to return to service successfully.

This visit reflects Sonatrach’s steadfast leadership and its commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement in its vast network of facilities across Algeria.
