Sonatrach Explores New Strategic Partnership Opportunities with Italy’s Enel Global Trading

Algiers, Algeria | February 11th, 2025 — In a significant move to strengthen Algeria’s position as a major energy provider, Sonatrach’s Chairman and CEO, Rachid Hachichi, held a high-level meeting with a delegation from Italy’s Enel Global Trading, led by its Director, Claudio Machetti. For his part, Rachid Hachichi reaffirmed Sonatrach’s commitment to its role as a principal supplier of natural gas to Europe and the Mediterranean region. He highlighted Algeria’s strategic positioning as a secure and reliable energy source, with its supply network extending beyond Southern Europe into Central European nations, thereby reinforcing the continent’s energy security.

The discussions provided a platform to assess ways to expand and enrich the existing commercial partnership. Both parties explored potential opportunities for new joint ventures across the hydrocarbon value chain, aiming to leverage their expertise and market reach for mutual growth.

Enel Global Trading, a key player in the global energy trading sector, has been a strategic client of Sonatrach since 1991. Through long-term agreements, the Italian energy company has played a pivotal role in the distribution of Algerian natural gas to European markets, underscoring the enduring nature of this partnership.
