Sonatrach Extends Condolences Following Tragic Road Accident Near Hassi Messaoud, Claiming 11 Lives

Algiers, Algeria | October 31st, 2024 — On Tuesday, Sonatrach, Algeria’s national hydrocarbon group, extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the 11 victims who tragically lost their lives in a severe road accident near Hassi Messaoud in the Ouargla province. The accident involved a head-on collision between a semi-trailer truck and a personnel transport bus carrying subcontractor employees of the Sonatrach-ENI Association. The incident occurred approximately 135 kilometers from the Bir Rebaa Nord living base and 60 kilometers from Rhourde El Baguel.

According to Sonatrach’s statement, the 11 individuals who perished were employees of the G-BAC and Almafrique companies, subcontractors associated with Sonatrach-ENI at Bir Rebaa Nord. Tragically, the impact of the collision left no survivors among those in the bus, while the truck driver sustained injuries.

In response to the gravity of the accident, Sonatrach activated the Tactical Command Post for the Hassi Messaoud production region. This swift action aimed to facilitate emergency assistance, secure the site, and coordinate the safe evacuation of the victims in close collaboration with Civil Protection and the National Gendarmerie.

In expressing their profound sympathies, Sonatrach offered sincere condolences to the bereaved families and the companies employing the deceased, reiterating the corporation’s commitment to supporting all affected parties during this difficult time.
