Sonatrach Facilities in Skikda, Annaba, El-Tarf Under Inspection by CEO Toufik Hakkar

ALGIERS- The CEO of Sonatrach, Toufik Hakkar, embarked on a two-day inspection tour of Sonatrach facilities in Skikda, Annaba, and El-Tarf. The purpose of his visit was to assess the progress of various projects and ensure that they are aligned with the company’ strategic objectives.
Beginning his tour in Skikda, Hakkar focused on the extension of the oil port, a significant project aimed at enhancing the loading and unloading capabilities of large ships. The construction of the port is nearly complete, with 94% of the work finished. Hakkar closely examined the project’s advancement and emphasized the importance of meeting the set deadlines, as it plays a crucial role in expanding Sonatrach’s marketing capacities and fulfilling obligations to foreign partners.
Another project under Hakkar’s scrutiny was the construction of a liquefied gas tank with a substantial capacity of 150,000 m3. This initiative intends to optimize the storage of liquefied natural gas within the industrial zone. Hakkar stressed the significance of this project, which aligns with Sonatrach’s strategy for growth.
During his visit to the Skikda industrial zone, Hakkar also dedicated time to the GL1K gas liquefaction complex. He engaged in a comprehensive presentation on the complex’s scheduled maintenance, involving young technicians and engineers. This interaction showcased Hakkar’s commitment to fostering the development of young talent within Sonatrach.
Moving on to El-Tarf, Hakkar assessed the progress of a seawater desalination plant project. The plant is designed to produce 300,000 m3 of desalinated water per day. This initiative reflects Sonatrach’s commitment to sustainable practices and ensuring a reliable water supply for the region.
In the final leg of his tour, Hakkar visited the Asmidal complex in Annaba, a subsidiary of Sonatrach specializing in fertilizers and phytosanitary products. During his visit, he inspected the storage and distribution unit of Asfertrade, a branch of the Asmidal complex, and reviewed preparations for the upcoming sowing campaign.
Hakkar also took the opportunity to meet with senior executives of the Asmidal group, emphasizing their strategic role in creating added value, agricultural development, and contributing to the overall growth of the national economy. He highlighted the importance of upcoming strategic projects, including the integrated phosphate project, which will further strengthen Sonatrach’s position in the market.
Through his inspection tour, Toufik Hakkar demonstrated his hands-on approach and commitment to overseeing the progress of key projects within Sonatrach. His engagement with young talent and emphasis on meeting deadlines underscored the company’s dedication to excellence and its pursuit of sustainable growth. With these initiatives, Sonatrach continues to solidify its position as a leading player in the energy sector and a key driver of economic development in Algeria.
