ALGIERS- The CEO of Sonatrach Group, Rachid Hachichi, held discussions with Mike Lewis, CEO of the German multinational company Uniper, and Ulf Heitmüller, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the German company VNG. These talks took place on the sidelines of the visit to Algeria by the Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Climate, Robert Habeck, as stated in a press release from Sonatrach Group.

These meetings were held concurrently with a roundtable discussion focusing on cooperation in mutual interest areas such as renewable energies, hydrogen development, and the South H2 Corridor project. The roundtable involved representatives from Algerian and German companies operating in the energy sector, as well as representatives from the embassies of Tunisia, Italy, and Austria, along with the European Union (EU) in Algeria.

The meeting between Rachid Hachichi and Mike Lewis focused on partnership opportunities in the gas and renewable energy sectors. Uniper specializes in electricity and gas production, in addition to clean energies, making it an ideal partner for collaboration.

Similarly, the discussion between the CEO of Sonatrach and his counterpart from VNG centered on commercial relations between the two companies and their development prospects.

It is worth noting that Sonatrach had signed a memorandum of understanding with the German company “VNG” during the 4th edition of the Algerian-German Energy Day, held in December 2022 in Algiers. The agreement aimed to explore cooperation opportunities for projects in the field of hydrogen and green ammonia, with the intention of exporting them to Germany.
