ALGIERS- In a ceremony attended by key dignitaries, including the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and the Minister of National Education, Abdelhakim Belabed, Sonatrach, Algeria’s national oil and gas company, recognized 60 students from primary, middle, and high school levels. The occasion marked the conclusion of a national writing competition organized by Sonatrach in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education. This initiative was part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of Sonatrach’s establishment on December 31, 1963.

The competition, designed for students, acknowledged 20 participants from each educational level (primary, middle, and high school) for their outstanding written contributions in Arabic. The themes revolved around environmental issues, energy, and digitization.

During the event, Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of supporting young Algerians to express their potential across various sectors. He underscored that education, teaching, and culture are “priorities for building a modern Algeria.” Minister Arkab reaffirmed his department’s commitment to supporting and accompanying the cultural and educational sectors to contribute to Algeria’s economic and social development.

Minister Belabed highlighted that the intellectual competition aimed to “uncover young talents and develop writing skills in the new generation.” He expressed satisfaction with the significant value of the rewards offered by Sonatrach to the laureates and their educational institutions.

Expressing gratitude to the parents for supporting their children’s success, Minister Krikou praised the quality of the chosen themes for the competition. She acknowledged the ability of Algerian children to accumulate technological and innovative knowledge.

Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, explained that the competition aimed to enhance innovation and awareness among young students. The choice of writing as the focus was deliberate, considering it as “one of the most important means of communication throughout the ages.”

Hachichi highlighted that the selected themes reflected Sonatrach’s commitment to sustainable development and encouragement of innovative thinking, reinforcing environmental and technological values among the younger generation.
