Algiers, Algeria | February 6th, 2025 — On Thursday, Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Spanish energy company “Enagás,” led by its CEO Arturo Gonzalo Aizpiri, marking a significant step towards expanding their collaboration in the energy sector.
During the meeting, both parties explored opportunities for fostering a constructive partnership in several areas related to the value chain of the energy industry, according to a statement released by Sonatrach. Enagás expressed a keen interest in furthering its collaboration with Sonatrach in various key sectors, including:
- Natural gas,
- Green hydrogen,
- Clean and renewable energy,
- Research and development,
- Training and capacity building.
Moreover, Enagás underscored its desire to integrate Sonatrach into the working teams responsible for the development of green hydrogen projects in Spain. These teams include Spanish, Portuguese, and German companies, collaborating under the leadership of Enagás, which has been tasked by the Spanish government with developing the national green hydrogen transportation network.
Sonatrach’s statement also highlighted that the company already supplies Enagás, a key player in managing the gas distribution network across the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), through the transcontinental “Medgaz” pipeline. Sonatrach holds a 51% stake in this vital infrastructure.
The statement concluded with Sonatrach reaffirming the high significance it places on Enagás’s proposals, which are set to enhance Sonatrach’s presence in Spain and, more broadly, in the European market for clean and renewable energy solutions, including green hydrogen.
