ALGIERS- Sonatrach, the renowned Algerian energy company, has announced a momentous liquefied natural gas (LNG) delivery to Italy. In a press release issued on Tuesday, the state-owned group revealed that it successfully transported a staggering 90 million cubic meters of LNG to the Italian hydrocarbon giant, ENI.
The remarkable delivery, which took place on July 7, was loaded at Sonatrach’s GL3Z liquefaction complex in Bethioua, located in the province of Oran. The LNG was then meticulously transported via an LNG tanker from Hyproc, a subsidiary of Sonatrach specializing in maritime hydrocarbon transport.
Sonatrach’s decision to provide this substantial LNG cargo to ENI serves as a crucial step in fortifying its gas exports. The LNG was specifically delivered to the new floating regasification terminal of Piombino in Italy, as highlighted in the press release.
This noteworthy delivery bears particular significance as it marks the first commercial cargo from the Piombino terminal following the conclusion of the test phase. Sonatrach enthusiastically acknowledges that this event signals the commencement of full-scale commercial operations at the terminal. As a result, the company is committed to consistently augmenting its volumes to the terminal in order to solidify gas deliveries to Europe, with Italy serving as a focal point.
Sonatrach remains steadfast in its mission to bolster its central role in ensuring the security of gas supplies to Europe, with a specific emphasis on Italy. By increasing its deliveries to the new terminal on a regular basis, the company aims to solidify its position as a reliable and indispensable contributor to Europe’s energy needs.
The recent delivery to ENI underscores Sonatrach’s unwavering commitment to the gas sector and its determination to establish sustainable partnerships that facilitate the efficient transportation and distribution of LNG. Sonatrach’s dedication to meeting Europe’s energy demands is evident in its consistent efforts to strengthen its export capabilities and ensure a steady supply of natural gas.
