Algiers, Algeria | November 04th, 2024 — On Sunday, November 3, the CEO of Sonelgaz, Mourad Adjal, accompanied by senior officials from the sector, conducted an inspection and working visit across various communes in El Tarf, highlighting the company’s ambitious plans for this vital region. During the tour, Mr. Adjal underscored significant commitments toward electricity and gas infrastructure, with a vision extending to 2030 and investments estimated in the hundreds of billions of Algerian dinars.

A core element of Sonelgaz’s strategy involves an “open” program for installing new transformers to minimize voltage drops and improve service delivery. This program is designed to address the long-standing demands of residents and businesses for reliable energy solutions. Nationally, Sonelgaz has also connected approximately 6,700 agricultural enterprises to the electric grid, a key factor in supporting Algeria’s agricultural sector. These connections were fully funded by the state, underscoring its commitment to supporting local agriculture.

In El Gantra, a locality within El Kala, Mr. Adjal assured residents of the availability of city gas by the winter of 2026, an initiative that promises a substantial improvement in the quality of life for local communities. Sonelgaz also extended its support to the local handball team, which competes in National B, by committing to sponsorship to address its longstanding funding challenges.

The delegation, joined by local authorities, inaugurated new infrastructure aimed at enhancing community services. In El Kala, Mr. Adjal opened two new rest centers in Tonga and Fernana, providing residents with much-needed recreational spaces. In Matroha, El Tarf, a 60/30-kilovolt transformer station was inaugurated, while work on connecting commercial zones to electricity and gas networks continues. Mr. Adjal urged contractors to adhere to quality standards and timelines to ensure the swift completion of these essential projects.

Several local communities are already witnessing the impact of Sonelgaz’s initiatives. In Ouled Bouaicha, 196 families will soon have access to city gas. Meanwhile, a 30/60/22-kilovolt transformer in Taguida is slated to become operational soon. In Sidi Kassi, Ben M’hidi commune, the CEO supervised the electrification of 136 public housing units developed by the Office for Housing Promotion and Management (OPGI). Additionally, in Asfour, the activation of city gas for 121 households in Tefaha marked another milestone in Sonelgaz’s mission to expand energy access across Algeria.

In a final assessment with regional leaders and Sonelgaz officials, Mr. Adjal reviewed the objectives set in 2022, examined the challenges facing Sonelgaz, and discussed future strategies. This tour exemplifies Sonelgaz’s commitment to enhancing the energy infrastructure in El Tarf, underscoring its broader mission to ensure accessible and reliable energy for Algerians nationwide.
