Algiers, Algeria | September 27th, 2024 — Mourad Adjal, CEO of Sonelgaz, reiterated the company’s unwavering dedication to mobilizing all necessary resources to ensure the seamless integration of the “Baladna” project into Algeria’s energy networks.
This declaration aligns with directives from Algeria’s top leadership, underlining the project’s strategic importance for the country’s economic development. Adjal’s remarks came during a high-level meeting held on Thursday between Sonelgaz and executives from the Qatari-based “Baladna Food Industries,” at Sonelgaz headquarters, according to an official press release.
Adjal emphasized that Sonelgaz has already established a comprehensive roadmap to fulfill its energy supply commitments. In the project’s first phase, the company has successfully delivered 80 megawatts of power and constructed eight electrical substations. He added that Sonelgaz is prepared to further support the initiative, pending the official request from the Qatari side for gas supply, demonstrating Sonelgaz’s readiness to meet future energy demands as the project expands.
Maurice Ghattas, Executive Director of Baladna in Algeria, lauded the collaboration, noting the project’s significance not only for Algeria but for the broader MENA region. He expressed confidence in Sonelgaz’s ability to deliver on its commitments, highlighting the trust and confidence Baladna places in its Algerian counterpart.
The press release further detailed an extensive technical meeting between both parties, which took place on Wednesday. The discussions focused on operational and logistical aspects essential to the project’s success, underscoring the importance of efficient energy solutions in driving the development of this pivotal agricultural and food production initiative.
