Sonelgaz Exports Key Electrical Equipment to Iraq, Strengthening Global Trade Partnerships

Algiers, Algeria | September 14th, 2024 — Sonelgaz, Algeria’s state-owned energy leader, is marking a major milestone with its export of crucial electrical equipment to Iraq, reflecting its strategic goal of enhancing commercial partnerships globally while reducing Algeria’s reliance on hydrocarbons. The export ceremony, scheduled for Saturday at the General Electric Algeria Turbines (GEAT) plant in Batna, will see the delivery of a high-capacity gas turbine generator with a combined output of 300 megawatts, along with essential accessories, to the Iraqi company, Taurus Arm For Power Generation, Oil Trading, and Transportation Ltd.

This operation is a key component of Algeria’s broader efforts to diversify its economy by promoting non-hydrocarbon sectors and elevating the value of locally manufactured products. The exported equipment, including advanced gas turbine generators of types H53 and H50, highlights Algeria’s growing industrial capabilities and competitiveness on the international stage.

Sonelgaz’s statement emphasized that this initiative is in line with national directives aimed at fostering economic diversification and developing an industrial sector capable of international competition. The company also reiterated its commitment to expanding its export capacities and reinforcing national integration in line with the country’s development goals.
