ALGIERS- Sonelgaz Group and General Electric (GE) have inked a new agreement on Wednesday, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of their joint venture, General Electric Algeria Turbines (GEAT), which was established in 2014.
The focus of the new agreement is to ramp up the production of high and ultra-high voltage electrical substation equipment, as announced by Sonelgaz Group. The signing ceremony, held at Sonelgaz’s General Directorate headquarters, was presided over by Sonelgaz CEO, Mourad Adjal, and attended by senior executives from both organizations. Joseph Anis, Executive Director of Power Services for the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia at General Electric, led the delegation representing GE.
During the event, Mr. Adjal highlighted the significance of the agreement in meeting Sonelgaz’s requirements for high and ultra-high voltage substation equipment. The objective is to achieve self-sufficiency in this domain, with potential future prospects for exporting such equipment.
Established in 2014, the joint venture between Sonelgaz and General Electric, GEAT, has been instrumental in manufacturing turbine components and assembling gas and steam turbines for power plant commissioning. The collaboration has furthered technological advancements in the energy sector, with a facility located in Ain Yagout, approximately 30 kilometers from the city of Batna.
