Algiers, Algeria | October 7th, 2024 — Sonelgaz has initiated a large-scale debt recovery campaign named “Tahsil” across the Bouira province, mobilizing various commercial agencies of the local distribution directorate. This initiative, designed to collect unpaid electricity and gas bills, has been ongoing for several days in multiple communes, as confirmed by Khaled Messaoudi, Director of Electricity and Gas Distribution in Bouira.

Outstanding Debt Reaches 2,073 Million DZD by August 2024

As of the end of August 2024, the total outstanding debt owed to Sonelgaz reached 2,073 million DZD, representing an 8% increase compared to the same period in 2023, Messaoudi explained. Of this total, more than 1,000 million DZD is attributed to domestic customers, making up 49% of the total debt, reflecting household consumption patterns. Furthermore, 788 million DZD, or 38%, is owed by the economic sector, while an additional 119 million DZD, constituting 0.05%, is attributed to government entities.

Payment Plans and Alternatives Offered

The “Tahsil” campaign includes the pooling of human and material resources, with enhanced support from the electricity and gas districts as well as subcontracting companies. To avoid further measures, Sonelgaz has urged its subscribers to settle their bills to prevent accumulating overdue payments.

Customers are encouraged to visit Sonelgaz agencies to take advantage of the various payment methods available, including cash, online payments via TPE (Electronic Payment Terminals), and installment payment plans, which will be arranged based on the number of unpaid bills.
