Algiers, Algeria | August 16th, 2024 — On Wednesday, Sonelgaz, Algeria’s premier energy company, engaged in discussions with the Mexican firm Duro Felguera about a significant new power plant project in Aïn Oussera, Djelfa province. The meeting, held at Sonelgaz’s headquarters, was attended by high-level representatives from both organizations.
Sonelgaz CEO Mourad Adjal welcomed the delegation from Duro Felguera, headed by Chairman Jaime Isita Portilla. The talks centered on deepening the economic partnership between Sonelgaz and the Mexican company, with a focus on the development of the Aïn Oussera power plant.
A communiqué from Sonelgaz emphasized the longstanding historical relations between Algeria and Mexico, highlighting the importance of bolstering economic cooperation. Both parties acknowledged the potential of their collaboration to strengthen bilateral relations and promote economic progress.
During the discussions, strategies were formulated to expedite the project’s advancement. A joint task force will be created to draft a memorandum of understanding and develop a comprehensive roadmap, ensuring the project’s timely completion and operational readiness.
Mourad Adjal expressed his optimism about the new leadership team at Duro Felguera, commending their potential to energize the partnership and propel the project forward.
The anticipated power plant is poised to play a crucial role in addressing Algeria’s expanding energy demands. The collaboration with Duro Felguera aims to harness the expertise of both parties, ensuring efficient and prompt execution of the project, which is expected to significantly contribute to Algeria’s energy infrastructure.
