Sonelgaz, Siemens Energy Forge Strategic Alliance to Propel Algeria’s Energy Innovation and International Expansion

Algiers, Algeria | February 6th, 2025 —  In a momentous step towards reinforcing Algeria’s energy sector and expanding its global footprint, Sonelgaz and Siemens Energy have formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing energy collaboration and innovation. The agreement was signed by Mourad Adjal, President and CEO of Sonelgaz, and Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, in Berlin, Germany. This accord cements a new era of cooperation between the two energy giants, positioning Algeria as a pivotal player in the global energy transition.

Mourad Adjal is currently on an official visit to Berlin from February 5 to 7, 2025, where he is engaging in high-level discussions with top executives of Siemens Energy, particularly in light of a prior meeting held on December 10, 2024, at Sonelgaz headquarters in Algiers with the company’s regional director for the Middle East and Africa. The discussions, held at the invitation of Siemens Energy, underscore Sonelgaz’s commitment to fortifying its international partnerships, particularly with leading European energy firms, as part of Algeria’s broader economic diversification strategy.

A Milestone in Energy Partnership

The newly inked MoU outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation between Sonelgaz and Siemens Energy, targeting key aspects of the energy industry, including:

• Integration of Renewable Energy Solutions: The agreement places a strong emphasis on the development and seamless integration of renewable energy technologies into Algeria’s energy infrastructure, aligning with the country’s sustainability objectives.
• Advanced Maintenance and Infrastructure Optimization: Sonelgaz and Siemens Energy will collaborate on the maintenance of both conventional and renewable electricity generation facilities, ensuring enhanced operational efficiency and extended asset longevity.
• Development and Supply of Electrical Equipment: The partnership will facilitate the design, development, and procurement of cutting-edge electrical components essential for power transmission and distribution networks, ensuring reliability and resilience in energy supply.
• Technical Training and Capacity Building: Siemens Energy will extend specialized training programs to Sonelgaz engineers and technical teams, equipping them with expertise in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, alongside the latest advancements in gas and electrical technologies.
• Technology Transfer and Gas Turbine Component Manufacturing: A crucial element of this partnership is the transfer of Siemens’ advanced technology for manufacturing hot components of gas turbines in Algeria, a move that will significantly boost local industrial capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign imports.
• Joint Service Expansion in Africa and the Middle East: Beyond domestic benefits, the collaboration envisions Sonelgaz and Siemens Energy jointly providing maintenance and technical services across Africa and the Middle East, establishing Algeria as a regional hub for energy services and expertise.
