Algiers, Algeria | June 6th, 2024 — Sonelgaz Group has embarked on a significant array of energy initiatives across various provinces, aimed at fortifying and consolidating the electricity grid to ensure uninterrupted power supply and high-quality service throughout the summer of 2024. This announcement was made in a statement released by the group on Tuesday.
Operating through its subsidiary, the Electricity Transmission System Operator (GRTE), Sonelgaz has initiated a specialized action plan to bolster the electricity transmission network for the summer of 2024. This plan encompasses a range of projects, including electricity connection centers, transformers, and mobile stations. The statement specifies that “47 major energy installations have been activated, with progress on 24 other installations ranging between 80 and 100%.”
The primary focus of this plan is on 16 priority provinces, notably Algiers, Sétif, Constantine, Tizi Ouzou, Biskra, Tlemcen, Ouargla, Jijel, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Bouira, Béjaïa, Ghelizane, M’sila, Skikda, Blida, and Tipaza, according to the same source.
In tandem with ongoing summer preparations and in fulfillment of all commitments regarding the reinforcement of the electricity transmission network, the Sonelgaz-Distribution branch has concluded a specialized plan for medium-voltage installations. “This includes the completion of 687 electrical transformers and 2,054 kilometers of electricity distribution network,” the group adds.
Apart from ensuring service quality and continuity, especially during the heightened electricity demand of the summer season, these installations will also contribute to “strengthening the electricity grid to meet the requirements of the economic sector and key projects such as industrial zones, activity areas, agricultural zones, and seawater desalination plants,” the statement concludes.
