ALGIERS- In a significant move towards advancing renewable energy initiatives, the Central Research and Development Directorate of the Sonelgaz Group signed two cooperation agreements with the Renewable Energy Development Center (CDER) on Sunday in Algiers. These agreements aim to facilitate the production of green hydrogen, as outlined in a press release by the state-owned group.
The signing ceremony, presided over by Sonelgaz’s CEO, Mourad Adjal, witnessed the presence of several senior executives from the group alongside researchers.
The first agreement focuses on conducting a techno-economic study for the establishment of a primary green hydrogen production unit, while the second agreement pertains to conducting a study to select the site for housing this unit, the press release noted.
During the event, Mr. Adjal underscored Sonelgaz’s strong commitment to scientific research, aligning with the national directives aimed at enhancing cooperation between the economic and scientific research sectors to improve the group’s performance as a key driver of the national economy.
In response, the Director of CDER, Noureddine Abdelbaki, expressed his satisfaction with Sonelgaz’s emphasis on scientific research, highlighting the significance of this cooperation in strengthening the partnership between the two sectors in line with the government’s vision.
The collaboration between Sonelgaz and CDER in the production of green hydrogen underscores their shared commitment to sustainable energy solutions and marks a significant step towards achieving Algeria’s renewable energy goals.
