Algiers, February 20, 2024 – The President and CEO of Sonelgaz Group, Mourad Adjal, hosted his counterpart from the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company, Faisal Trifa, on Monday. The two parties engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between their respective companies and expanding the horizons of their partnership, as per a statement released by the Algerian company.
This meeting signifies a commitment to bolstering Sonelgaz’s external partnership network, as highlighted in the statement.
During the discussion, Mr. Adjal underscored “the strong relations between the two countries and the importance that the highest authorities of Algeria place on Tunisia, particularly regarding meeting its electricity needs.” He also expressed Sonelgaz’s ambition to broaden cooperation beyond electricity exports, extending to various domains where mutual exchange of experiences could occur, following the principle of mutual benefit.
On his part, Mr. Trifa acknowledged the cooperation the Tunisian company has received from its Algerian counterpart, expressing his desire to deepen the level of relations in broader areas. He also conveyed keen interest in Sonelgaz as a model in terms of management, structure, and network control through advanced technological mechanisms, in addition to manufacturing.
After discussing the challenges faced by his company, particularly during summer months, Mr. Trifa confirmed that “a detailed report will be prepared on all the needs of the Tunisian company.” This report is being examined by both parties to finalize a bilateral memorandum of understanding that aligns with the ambitions of both companies.
Mr. Trifa and his accompanying delegation visited various energy facilities operated by Sonelgaz, accompanied by Sonelgaz executives. This visit aimed to provide firsthand insight into all the activities in which Sonelgaz specializes, including production, transportation, distribution, manufacturing, and maintenance, according to the statement.
The discussions and site visits demonstrate the commitment of Sonelgaz and the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company to deepen their collaboration and explore avenues for mutual growth and development in the energy sector.
