The encounter, part of the AFCON tournament in Côte d’Ivoire ‘Ivory Coast’, unfolded in the city of San Pedro and was officiated by Sudanese referee Mahmoud Ismail. South Africa’s forward Evidence Makgopa found the back of the net in the 57th minute, giving his team the lead. The second goal came during injury time (90+5) courtesy of midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

Under the guidance of Belgian coach Hugo Broos, who previously managed Algerian clubs JS Kabylie and NA Hussein Dey, Bafana Bafana displayed a cohesive and determined performance. Broos, who leads the team with pride in the legacy of the late leader Nelson Mandela, has successfully steered South Africa through a challenging path in the tournament.

Morocco, on the other hand, faced a setback when defender Achraf Hakimi missed a penalty in the 85th minute. Adding to the woes, Moroccan midfielder Sofiane Amrabat received a red card in injury time (90+4) after accumulating two yellow cards.
