Standing Strong in the Face of Tragedy: Algerian Red Crescent Extends Condolences and Unwavering Solidarity Amid Forest Fires

ALGIERS- The recent forest fires that swept through several provinces in Algeria have left a trail of devastation, impacting lives and communities. In the wake of this disaster, the Algerian Red Crescent has risen to the occasion, offering heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and providing vital humanitarian aid to those affected.
As the humanitarian arm of the Algerian state, the Algerian Red Crescent swiftly mobilized its volunteers and resources to assist in the affected regions. From the first moments of the fires’ outbreak, their dedicated volunteers were on the ground in the provinces of Bouira, Jijel, Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou, and Skikda, working tirelessly in collaboration with civil protection agents and members of the People’s National Army. Their efforts included evacuations, providing aid to citizens, distributing water, and offering essential psychological support to those traumatized by the catastrophe.
One of the critical figures leading the Algerian Red Crescent’s efforts is President Ibtisam Hamlaoui, who personally conducted an inspection visit to the devastated areas in Bouira and Bejaia provinces. During her visit, she assessed the capabilities of provinces’ committees and extended moral and material support to those affected. Moreover, aid convoys were dispatched to other provinces impacted by the fires, ensuring that no one was left to face this disaster alone.
The magnitude of the aid provided by the Algerian Red Crescent is nothing short of awe-inspiring. In total, the humanitarian organization offered 1,000 mattresses, 1,300 food parcels, and an astounding 65,274 boxes of medicines, including vital antibiotics and painkillers, intended for hospitals and medical facilities. For families grappling with the aftermath, 3,500 boxes of personal hygiene items were distributed, promoting their well-being during this trying time.
Understanding the importance of access to clean water, the Algerian Red Crescent also distributed 50,000 bottles of mineral water, each with a capacity of 1.5 liters, ensuring hydration for those who have been displaced. In addition, the aid included solutions, diapers, sanitary pads, 400 blankets, 40 electric fans, and 05 refrigerators, easing the burden for those starting to rebuild their lives.
Such a monumental undertaking would not have been possible without the unwavering support and contributions of various partners. The Algerian Red Crescent expresses its gratitude to Ooredoo, Logitran, Sidal, and the Ministry of Health and Pharmaceutical Production for their invaluable contributions to these aid convoys. Their cooperation showcases the true strength of solidarity and collective action during moments of crisis.
The Algerian Red Crescent’s efforts stand as a testament to the nation’s compassion and resilience in the face of adversity. As the affected communities grapple with the aftermath of the forest fires, the support provided by the Algerian Red Crescent will undoubtedly serve as a beacon of hope, guiding the way towards recovery and reconstruction.
