Minister Brahim Merad reaffirms the State’s unwavering solidarity with citizens, announcing immediate relocation measures, psychological support for victims, and preventive actions to mitigate future risks.

Algiers, Algeria | April 27th, 2025 — In a decisive and compassionate move, Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies and Urban Planning, Brahim Merad, announced on Sunday in Oran that all families residing in homes threatened by collapse following the recent landslide in the Sanaouber district will be rehoused immediately, starting tonight.

Speaking to the press after a high-level meeting with local authorities at the Wilaya headquarters—also attended by the Minister of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Affairs, Soraya Mouloudji, and the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and the City, Mohamed Tarek Belaribi—Merad confirmed, “All families who must evacuate their endangered homes will be relocated tonight to new, safe housing.” He further emphasized that all necessary measures had been taken in coordination with the Ministry of Housing and local authorities to ensure the full care and support of the affected residents.

Reaffirming the government’s unshakeable commitment to its citizens, Merad stressed, “The State stands firmly with the citizen, wherever they are.” He highlighted the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who attaches paramount importance to the welfare of every Algerian, calling for national solidarity with the affected families and urgent efforts to eliminate imminent dangers to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Beyond immediate rehousing efforts, the government is deploying additional support mechanisms, including psychological assistance for the victims and their families, supervised by trained specialists. “Psychological support is an essential part of our intervention to help families overcome this traumatic experience,” Merad stated.

The ministerial delegation, dispatched under the direct instructions of President Tebboune, visited the accident site at “Terrain Chabat” in the Sanaouber neighborhood and the emergency unit of Dr. Benzerdjeb University Hospital Center (CHU) to assess both the material damage and the quality of medical care provided to the injured.

The delegation included Interior Minister Brahim Merad, Minister of National Solidarity Soraya Mouloudji, Minister of Housing Mohamed Tarek Belaribi, the Director General of National Security Ali Badaoui, and the Director General of Civil Protection Boualem Boughelaf. Their presence in Oran underscored the government’s commitment not only to immediate response but also to reinforcing preventive measures against future threats, whether from precarious housing, flooding, or other natural hazards.

This proactive and resolute intervention reflects the broader national policy of standing in solidarity with citizens, ensuring their safety, dignity, and well-being at all times.
