Algiers, Algeria | August 13th, 2024 — During his visit to Algiers on Tuesday, Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine underscored that the cooperation between Algeria and Niger is grounded in three fundamental values: neighborliness, fraternity, and friendship.

Following his audience with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Lamine Zeine highlighted that the bilateral relationship between Algeria and Niger is built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and shared interests. He noted a positive shift in their relationship, emphasizing that previous uncertainties have largely dissipated, reflecting a renewed spirit of collaboration and understanding.

Lamine Zeine affirmed Niger’s steadfast commitment to protecting its sovereignty, paralleling Algeria’s own resistance to external interference. “Niger has chosen to be extremely protective of its sovereignty,” he stated. “We observe the same mindset in Algeria, which has always resisted external meddling.”

The Prime Minister also discussed the message from Niger’s Head of State, General Abdourahmane Tiani, conveyed through his visit. He praised the productive discussions with President Tebboune despite his busy schedule and stressed the importance of reassessing their bilateral cooperation.

Reflecting on recent challenges faced by Niger, particularly after the events of July 26, 2023, Lamine Zeine expressed a desire to fortify the relationship between the two nations. He acknowledged a perceived lack of support from Algeria during those critical times but welcomed the reassuring clarifications provided by President Tebboune.

“The cooperation between our countries is based on neighborliness, given our long shared border, fraternity, due to our interconnected populations, and friendship,” Lamine Zeine explained. He also pointed out that Algeria’s expertise and experience could significantly benefit Niger’s rich resources, paving the way for mutual development.
