Algiers, Algeria | November 21st, 2024 — In a demonstration of the deep-rooted and unwavering partnership between Algeria and Somalia, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, the Special Envoy of the President of Somalia, conveyed to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune a message underscoring the robust and fraternal ties that have always characterized the bilateral relationship between the two nations. This statement came after an audience held on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, where the Somali envoy highlighted both the historical solidarity and future collaborative prospects shared by Algeria and Somalia.

During the meeting, Mr. Gelle delivered a letter from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to President Tebboune, which outlined the mutual aspirations to fortify the existing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the domains of bilateral meetings, political dialogue, and regional and international coordination. “The relationship between Algeria and Somalia is grounded in a solid, fraternal understanding that has always been reflected through our consistent collaboration,” Gelle remarked to the press following the audience.

In a pivotal moment, Gelle also underscored that Somalia, having regained its prominent position on the international stage, is set to serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in the coming year. Notably, this will place Somalia alongside Algeria in a shared role of significant diplomatic importance, highlighting the growing cooperation between the two countries on the global stage.

The Somali envoy elaborated on the importance of this forthcoming role, stressing that Algeria’s continued support for Somalia’s political and economic recovery remains instrumental. He pointed out that their joint membership in the UN Security Council represents a remarkable opportunity to address pressing global challenges, including regional peace and security, and the broader Arab, Islamic, and African issues of mutual concern.

Mr. Gelle also conveyed that President Tebboune expressed a keen interest in Somalia’s ongoing efforts and reaffirmed Algeria’s support for Somalia’s efforts to regain its rightful place in the international community. Notably, Gelle was tasked with relaying President Tebboune’s warm greetings to his Somali counterpart, reinforcing the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.

In conclusion, the meeting between the two leaders solidified the growing diplomatic and strategic cooperation between Algeria and Somalia. The two countries are poised to continue working hand in hand, not only within the framework of the UN Security Council but also in advancing their shared goals for regional stability, economic growth, and diplomatic prominence on the world stage.
