Czech Ambassador Jan Czerny Highlights Deepening Ties and Strategic Collaboration with Algeria at “Angels in Green” Art Exhibition

Algiers, Algeria | July 23rd, 2024 — In Tizi-Ouzou, Czech Ambassador Jan Czerny emphasized his country’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and deepening the friendship between the Czech Republic and Algeria. Speaking at the opening of an art exhibition titled “Angels in Green” at the Mohia Art Gallery, Czerny outlined his efforts to expand bilateral relations across various sectors since his arrival in Algeria 14 months ago.

The exhibition, dedicated to Bertha von Suttner Kinsky, the Czech pacifist and the first woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905, reflects the shared values of peace and cultural appreciation. Czerny highlighted the Czech Republic’s aim to bolster cooperation in multiple fields, including industry, energy, research, and trade, as well as culture. This effort aligns with Algeria’s ongoing economic diversification away from hydrocarbons.

Czerny detailed several key areas of potential collaboration. In the industrial sector, the Czech Republic is keen to engage in agricultural technology, with Zetor, a prominent manufacturer of agricultural machinery, expressing a strong interest in investing in Algeria to produce Zetor tractors locally.

In the realm of scientific research, particularly in nanotechnology, the Czech Republic seeks to establish partnerships between universities in both countries to advance technological development. Additionally, the energy sector remains a focal point of cooperation, aligning with Algeria’s strategy to enhance its energy infrastructure.

Cultural exchange is also a priority, with the Czech Republic participating in various Algerian cultural events and performances. The “Angels in Green” exhibition itself is part of this cultural engagement, celebrating Bertha von Suttner Kinsky’s advocacy for peace. Her influential novel, “Lay Down Your Arms,” which provides a woman’s perspective on war, has been translated into twelve languages and remains a significant contribution to global peace literature.

Ambassador Czerny’s visit and the ongoing cultural initiatives underscore the Czech Republic’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
