Algiers, Algeria | November 30th, 2024 — In a pivotal move to revitalize and promote Algeria’s cultural and intellectual legacy, Kamel Sidi Saïd, the Adviser to the President of Algeria for General Directorate of Communication, has lauded the recent agreements signed between Algeria’s public television, the National Theatre of Algiers, and the Algerian Cinema Development Center. The agreements were officially signed during a ceremony that took place in Algiers, with the participation of Minister of Communication Mohamed Meziane, Minister of Culture and Arts Zouhir Ballalou, and key industry leaders.

During the signing event, Sidi Saïd emphasized the crucial role of these agreements in restoring the Algerian cinema and theatre sectors to their rightful place, both within the nation and on the international stage. He underscored the importance of collaboration between the sectors of communication and culture, stating, “These agreements are a significant step forward in the revival of Algerian cinema and theatre, a process that aligns with the broader cultural strategy endorsed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to promote Algeria’s artistic and cultural image globally.”

Sidi Saïd expressed optimism about the future of the Algerian cinematic and theatrical landscape, noting the strides made in recent years, with the production of significant films and regional theatre performances. He pointed to the national pride generated by films commemorating Algeria’s revolutionary history, such as those marking the 60th anniversary of independence. These films, along with other notable works, are set to be broadcast on the public television channels, offering a window into Algeria’s rich artistic heritage for both domestic and international audiences.

The agreements, signed by Mohamed Baghali, Director General of Algerian Public Television; Zine-Eddine Akrab, Director General of the Algerian Cinema Development Center; and Mohamed Yahiaoui, Director General of the National Theatre of Algiers, pave the way for greater collaboration between the national media and cultural institutions. This partnership is expected to strengthen the promotion of Algerian cinema and theatre, enabling them to reach wider audiences, both inside Algeria and across the world.

Sidi Saïd further highlighted the strategic importance of these partnerships in advancing Algeria’s cultural diplomacy. “Culture is a vital component of Algeria’s national security and global influence. Through these initiatives, we aim to project a positive image of Algeria, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and creative talent to the world,” he said.

The agreements are seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering a vibrant and sustainable cultural sector. As part of the broader cultural strategy, these collaborations are designed to not only support the production and distribution of Algerian films and plays but also ensure that the rights of actors, directors, and other contributors are adequately recognized and protected.

In conclusion, Sidi Saïd reiterated the significance of these developments, noting that they align with President Tebboune’s broader vision of enhancing Algeria’s cultural and intellectual influence. “We are moving forward with determination to position Algerian cinema and theatre at the forefront of global cultural discourse, and these agreements are an essential part of that journey,” he concluded.

This renewed focus on strengthening the ties between communication, culture, and media marks a key milestone in Algeria’s quest to become a global cultural powerhouse. With such initiatives, the country is poised to enhance its influence on the international stage while preserving and celebrating its rich cultural heritage.
