ALGIERS- During his attendance at the United Nations General Assembly discussions concerning the Sustainable Energy Decade goals, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Attaf engaged in discussions with Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Friday. These discussions centered on the follow-up of recent dialogues between Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Iranian President Ibrahim Raïssi, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic efforts to deepen bilateral relations and address common challenges. The conversation also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip and efforts to support the Palestinian cause.

Algeria and Iran reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation through the signing of five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during President Raïssi’s visit to Algeria last month. These agreements, covering various sectors, such as oil and gas, economic exchange, tourism, cultural heritage preservation, information sharing, and sports collaboration, are set to span the period of 2024-2025.

The signing ceremony, overseen by Presidents Tebboune and Raïssi, signifies a significant advancement in efforts to strengthen ties between Algeria and Iran. Both leaders expressed their dedication to elevating cooperation to align with the political aspirations of their respective nations.

In addition to economic and cultural agreements, discussions between Presidents Tebboune and Raïssi also touched upon regional and international issues of mutual concern. President Tebboune applauded Iran’s support for Algeria’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and emphasized the alignment of both countries’ stances on critical matters like the Palestinian cause.

President Raïssi commended President Tebboune’s efforts in advocating for the Palestinian cause and regional peace, highlighting the longstanding bilateral relations between Algeria and Iran.
