Strengthening Partnerships: Sonatrach, Baker Hughes Explore African Market Opportunities

ALGIERS- Mohamed Arkab, Minister of Energy and Mines, held discussions on Sunday with Lorenzo Simonelli, the CEO of Baker Hughes, aimed at enhancing cooperation and exploring investment opportunities, as announced in a statement by the ministry.

The meeting occurred on the sidelines of Mohamed Arkab’s participation in the G7 Ministerial Conference on Climate, Energy, and the Environment, which is taking place in Turin, Italy, from April 28 to 30.

According to the ministry’s statement, the discussions centered on bolstering cooperation and identifying investment prospects in Algeria’s hydrocarbon sector, as well as collaborating with Sonatrach on projects like the Posting Gas Compression initiative in Hassi R’Mel.

Joint Venture Expansion

During the meeting, Minister Arkab praised Baker Hughes’ efforts and urged the company to expand its presence and operations in Algeria. He also encouraged Baker Hughes to venture into the African market alongside Sonatrach, particularly in engineering, carbon dioxide storage, and hydrogen development.

The ministry highlighted Baker Hughes as one of the largest oil and gas service companies globally, specializing in energy technologies. With a focus on innovation, experience, and capabilities, Baker Hughes provides customized energy solutions to clients worldwide.

The ministry’s statement underscored the significance of these discussions in fostering collaboration and exploring opportunities to advance Algeria’s hydrocarbon sector, in line with the country’s broader economic goals and objectives.
