ALGIERS- The Tala Hamza-Oued Amizour zinc and lead mine project, located in the wilaya of Bejaia, is set to generate 800 direct jobs and over 4,000 indirect jobs. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, overseeing the commencement of this project on Saturday morning, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the recruitment of young individuals from the region.
This significant undertaking presents Algeria with a unique opportunity to establish itself as one of the leading global producers of zinc. The mine boasts reserves estimated at 34 million tonnes, with an annual production target of approximately 2 million tonnes of ore. This translates to 170,000 tonnes of zinc concentrate and 30,000 tonnes of lead.
By harnessing the potential of the Tala Hamza-Oued Amizour mine, Algeria aims to join the ranks of the world’s top zinc producers. The vast reserves and projected production figures highlight the immense economic prospects associated with this venture.
Furthermore, the creation of 4,800 job opportunities, both direct and indirect, will not only contribute to the local economy but also provide a platform for the region’s youth to actively participate in the project’s success.
