Tassili Aviation Expands Fleet with Sixth AT-802 Aircraft to Enhance Firefighting and Agricultural Operations

Algiers, Algeria | December 6th, 2024 — In a strategic move to bolster its capacity for combating forest fires and supporting agricultural treatments, Tassili Aviation, a subsidiary of the Sonatrach Group, has officially welcomed its sixth AT-802 aircraft. The new addition was received at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing efforts to address environmental challenges and ensure national preparedness.

Manufactured by the U.S. company Air Tractor, the AT-802 aircraft is equipped with the capability to carry up to 3,000 liters of water or fire-retardant materials, making it a vital tool in disaster management and agricultural interventions. Known for its durability and ease of operation in rugged terrain, the AT-802 is particularly well-suited for the mountainous and forested regions of northern Algeria, where it will be deployed to combat wildfires and aid in agricultural spraying.

This acquisition is part of a broader strategy initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to create a fully integrated national fleet of firefighting aircraft, reinforcing Algeria’s preparedness against seasonal wildfires. The new addition is in line with the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s disaster response capabilities and ensuring the protection of vital natural resources.

In 2024 alone, a total of 12 AT-802 aircraft have been designated to assist in the national wildfire-fighting efforts, underscoring Sonatrach’s dedication to environmental preservation and sustainable development. Through these efforts, Tassili Aviation plays a pivotal role in safeguarding Algeria’s biodiversity and contributing to long-term ecological resilience.
