Independent Presidential Candidate Tebboune’s Campaign Visit to Djanet: A Pledge for Southern Algeria, Regional Unity

Algiers, Algeria | August 29th, 2024 — On August 29, 2024, independent presidential candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune delivered a significant address at a rally in Djanet, marking his third major campaign event following previous gatherings in Constantine and Oran. Tebboune’s visit underscored his commitment to Algeria’s southern regions and laid out a vision for both domestic development and international engagement.

Turning his attention to domestic issues, Tebboune emphasized the development of southern Algeria. He committed to providing significant support for the region’s youth, stating, “We will launch numerous initiatives to help the young people in this region live decently and start their own projects.” He also vowed that his government would convene meetings in Djanet to address local needs, similar to the initiatives previously undertaken in Khenchela and Tissemsilt.

Tebboune expressed his pride in the southern regions and their contributions to Algeria. “We are immensely proud of what the South has contributed to the nation. Its people are the guardians of our country,” he affirmed, underscoring the critical role of the region in Algeria’s national identity.

In recounting his first term, Tebboune emphasized his commitment to delivering on promises. “For the first time, there were no false promises, only written commitments,” he said. He described the challenges of his initial term, including efforts to combat corruption and restore financial stability. “We recovered stolen funds and set Algeria on a path to becoming a respected nation with a voice heard in international forums,” he added.

Looking forward, Tebboune reiterated his pledge to address local concerns through government meetings in Djanet and to execute regional development projects. He emphasized that his presidential program prioritizes youth as a cornerstone for national rejuvenation, promising improvements in living conditions and opportunities for the region’s young people.

Tebboune also reaffirmed his dedication to global advocacy, pledging continued support for oppressed people both within and beyond Algeria’s borders. “We strive to protect neighboring countries, with our defense of Niger serving as a prime example of our dedication,” he concluded, highlighting his firm stance on international solidarity and regional development.
