Tel Aviv’s Hollow Recognition of Morocco’s Alleged Sovereignty over Western Sahara: A Dubious Alliance of Blackmailers

ALGIERS, July 17, 2023- The Moroccan press reported on Monday that King Mohammed VI received a letter from Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in which the Zionist entity declared its recognition of Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over the disputed territory of Western Sahara. This announcement, however, raises serious concerns about the credibility of such a recognition and sheds light on a potentially alarming alliance.
According to a press release from the Moroccan royal cabinet, the Zionist Prime Minister expressed the decision to recognize the alleged Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, promising that “this stance would be reflected in all relevant Zionist government acts and documents.” Netanyahu also indicated that this decision would be transmitted to the United Nations, regional and international organizations, and all countries with which the Zionist entity maintains diplomatic relations.
What is particularly alarming about this recognition is the Zionist entity’s intention to open a consulate in the city of Dakhla, a move that undermines international law and disregards the non-autonomous status of the occupied territories. The United Nations, as well as the international community, have consistently rejected any claims of sovereignty over Western Sahara, recognizing it as a disputed territory requiring a just and lasting resolution.
It is essential to approach this recognition with skepticism and critically analyze the motives behind such a move. This alleged recognition carries no weight in terms of international legality and disregards the principles upheld by the United Nations Security Council. Rather than contributing to the peaceful resolution of the Western Sahara conflict, this recognition appears to be nothing more than an overt alliance between individuals and entities known for their disregard for international norms.
Furthermore, this recognition draws attention to the pressures and blackmail tactics employed by the Negev forum, a subject that demands further investigation and disclosure of pertinent details. The Negev forum’s involvement in this matter raises questions about the integrity and legitimacy of the decision made by Tel Aviv. The international community should be aware of any potential ulterior motives and the implications of aligning with actors who have historically challenged the authority of the United Nations Security Council.
It is crucial to remember that past endeavors, such as the so-called “deal of the century” and Donald Trump’s controversial tweet, have proven to be short-lived and lacking a viable future. This recognition must not overshadow the reality of the situation on the ground in Western Sahara, nor should it divert attention from the urgent need for a just and inclusive resolution to the conflict, one that respects the principles of self-determination and international law.
As further revelations and details emerge, we must scrutinize the true nature of this recognition and ensure that the pursuit of justice prevails over alliances formed in the shadows. The international community should remain committed to upholding the principles of international law, respect for the United Nations Security Council, and the legitimate aspirations of the Sahrawi people in their quest for self-determination and a peaceful resolution to the Western Sahara conflict.
