The 12th Edition of the Summer University for Polisario Front Leaders Kicks off in Algeria

Algiers, Algeria | July 14th, 2024 — The 12th edition of the Summer University for Polisario Leaders and the Sahrawi State commenced today at Boumerdès University’s Faculty of Law and Political Science, named after Mohamed Bouguerra. The opening ceremony was distinguished by the presence of key figures and representatives. Hamma Salama, representing Sahrawi President Brahim Ghali, participated alongside around 400 executives from various national institutions of the Sahrawi Republic, gathering under the theme “Struggle and Sacrifice for Independence and Freedom.”

Named in honor of martyr Abba Ali Hamoudi, this 10-day event aims to cultivate solidarity and commemorate the ongoing struggle for Sahrawi independence. The opening ceremony attracted accredited ambassadors to Algeria, national leaders, heads of Algerian political parties, academics, and representatives of civil society organizations.

During his address, Hamma Salama, also a member of the Permanent Bureau of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front and President of the Sahrawi National Council, conveyed gratitude on behalf of President Brahim Ghali to the organizers, supervisors, professors, and researchers involved. He emphasized the Summer University’s pivotal role in facilitating communication, solidarity, and the exchange of knowledge critical for equipping Sahrawi leaders with the necessary skills for national liberation, state-building, and adaptation to global dynamics.

Salama underscored the event’s importance in nurturing strategic alliances between Sahrawi entities and their Algerian counterparts, with the goal of fostering coexistence, cooperation, and regional stability. Throughout the event, academic conferences will explore various facets of the Sahrawi struggle and recent developments, featuring experts across political, cultural, and media domains.

The 12th edition of the Summer University promises to be a crucial milestone in advancing the Sahrawi cause, reinforcing solidarity with Algeria, and reaffirming the Sahrawi people’s steadfast commitment to self-determination amid complex global challenges.
