The Arab League Commends Algeria’s Active Role and Pays Tribute to President Tebboune

Cairo, September 10, 2023– The Arab League, during its 160th ordinary session held in Cairo, extended heartfelt recognition and tribute to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria. This accolade was bestowed in recognition of President Tebboune’s unwavering efforts and initiatives aimed at bolstering joint Arab action, with a special emphasis on championing the Palestinian cause.
The Council of the League at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs welcomed and applauded the active role Algeria has played on the regional stage, highlighting the country’ steadfast positions that have further solidified Arab solidarity. Of particular note were President Tebboune’s visionary proposals designed to reform and advance the actions of the League of Arab States, showcasing Algeria’s commitment to collective progress in the Arab world.
A moment of profound significance was when the council paid special tribute to President Tebboune for his relentless endeavors to foster unity among the Palestinian people. This sentiment was further underlined by the signing of the historic “Algiers Declaration” on October 13, 2022, which marked the culmination of a conference dedicated to Palestinian unity.
Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause was not limited to diplomatic gestures. The council also expressed its deep appreciation for Algeria’ substantial financial contributions. Algeria extended a generous sum of 152.8 million USD to the State of Palestine, demonstrating its commitment to the cause. Additionally, the country allocated 30 million USD to aid in the reconstruction of the Jenin camp, following the devastating aggression carried out by the Zionist occupying forces.
As Algeria prepares to assume its role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council in January, the Arab foreign ministers conveyed their confidence in the nation. They expressed optimism that Algeria would play a pivotal role in pushing forward resolutions addressing critical Arab issues presented before the Security Council.
The council also commended Algeria for its ongoing efforts in ensuring Libya’s security and stability, underscoring Algeria’s commitment to fostering peace and harmony across the Arab world.
