ALGIERS- In a vicious move aimed at securing international support, Morocco found itself entangled in a complicated web of political maneuvering. Former US President Donald Trump’s alleged recognition of the so-called “Moroccanity of the Sahara” came at a heavy cost, as Morocco had to navigate the path of normalization with the Zionist entity. However, this endeavor proved to be insufficient to obtain the desired recognition for its ambitions of annexing Western Sahara to the Kingdom.
With the transition in US leadership, President Joe Biden’s administration showcased a renewed commitment to international cooperation and the decisions of the United Nations. As a result, the long-standing Sahrawi conflict, primarily involving the Polisario Front and Morocco, once again took center stage with Morocco employing all its diplomatic tools to achieve its malicious objectives.
Nevertheless, despite the recognition of the self-proclaimed “State of Israel” and the subsequent normalization with the Zionist entity, this did not automatically secure recognition of the controversial “Moroccanity of the Sahara.” Surprisingly, the Zionist officials appeared to demand an exorbitant price for such recognition, going beyond diplomatic ties and delving into sensitive territory like “Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.”
The intricacies of the situation expose a multi-layered game, leaving Morocco trapped in an unending cycle of escalating demands. Each milestone achieved only reveals yet another, leaving the country in a perpetual pursuit of recognition. The expectations of the Zionist entity transcend the borders of its alleged state, encompassing requirements that make recognition an ever-moving target. As part of the deal, Moroccan territories have become host to Zionist military bases and intelligence operations, further complicating the situation.
Compounding the challenge is the conspicuous silence of the Makhzen regarding the crimes committed by the Zionist entity, particularly in Jenin and Gaza. While the recognition of the Zionist entity may serve as a symbolic ceiling, the Makhzen’ silence falls short of what is necessary to obtain recognition for the “Moroccanity of the Sahara.” This intricate game threatens to keep Morocco indefinitely suspended, chasing the illusion of recognition until its resources are depleted.
