The Makhzen Regime: Unwanted Presence in the BRICS Summit

Johannesburg, South Africa – August 21, 2023- In a startling revelation, the Moroccan regime’s claims of pursuing membership within the BRICS alliance have been vehemently refuted by official sources. Through its state-run agency, MAP, the regime declared on Saturday, August 19, that it had never submitted a candidacy to be considered for membership in the BRICS group. This assertion comes just days before the highly anticipated BRICS summit, scheduled to convene from August 22 to 24 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Contradicting the barrage of media attention generated by the Moroccan government’s propagandist machinery, the official MAP dispatch has exposed the claim as nothing more than a rumor. Citing an authoritative source within the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the statement reads, “The Kingdom has never considered responding positively to the invitation to the BRICS-Africa meeting in Johannesburg, nor participating in this meeting at any level whatsoever.”

This incident shines a spotlight on the Makhzen regime’s misguided attempts to wield influence on the international stage through false pretenses. With this revelation, it becomes clear that the Moroccan government sought to create an appearance of significance on the global political spectrum, only to be thwarted by their own fabrications.

Furthermore, the Moroccan regime’s attempted misinformation campaign has inadvertently cast a shadow on South Africa, a nation that has historically championed the fight against oppression and injustice. South Africa’s unwavering stand against the Apartheid regime speaks volumes about its commitment to justice and equality, a stance that starkly contrasts with the Makhzen’s actions. Moreover, South Africa, along with countries like Algeria, has been a vocal advocate for the rights of oppressed peoples, including those in Palestine and Western Sahara.

The attempt to associate South Africa with a regime that occupies territories illegitimately and fosters alliances with entities notorious for human rights abuses is not only misleading but deeply offensive to the values that South Africa upholds. This ill-conceived approach has exposed the Makhzen regime as an entity that is out of touch with the principles of justice and sovereignty.

In the backdrop of the emerging global order, the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg is set to lay down the foundational principles that will guide the future. Unfortunately for the Makhzen regime, its participation has been ruled out not only by its own deceptive practices but also due to its adversarial stance towards the member nations of the BRICS group. France’s President Macron, who sought involvement in the summit, had his aspirations thwarted by Russia, demonstrating the stringent criteria set by the BRICS countries for participation.

Furthermore, the Makhzen regime’s recent actions, including its support for NATO efforts as evidenced by military equipment shipments to Ukraine, have cemented its position as a pariah entity on the world stage. The regime’s actions stand in stark contrast to the values upheld by the BRICS alliance, which advocates for cooperation, mutual benefit, and a shared vision for a multipolar world.

As the world watches the BRICS Summit unfold, it becomes abundantly clear that the Makhzen regime’s attempt to forge a place for itself within the international community has been met with resounding rejection. The truth behind the false claims has exposed the regime’s desperation to gain recognition on the global stage, but its actions and alliances have ultimately rendered it an unwanted presence in the realm of progressive international cooperation.
