ALGIERS– In a shocking turn of events, the Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abd al-Latif Wehbe, has caused a stir by expressing views that seemingly endorse the acceptance of homosexuality in Moroccan society. During a recent interview with Al-Arabiya TV, Wehbe claimed that the global homosexual movement has become a dominant political and economic force worldwide, making it impossible for Morocco to resist its influence. His statements have ignited a heated debate within the country, raising questions about the government’s intentions and alleged ties with the LGBT community.
In the interview, Wehbe suggested that Moroccan society has no option but to come to terms with homosexuality and urged citizens to approach the issue with tolerance and open-mindedness. He stated, “We are in fact unable to confront them because they are very powerful, and we cannot cancel their choices because they are stronger than us.” These words have left many perplexed, as they imply a passive acceptance of what some still consider a controversial topic.
Furthermore, the Minister acknowledged that the homosexual movement has successfully gained control over European and American public opinion, thereby gaining social and political legitimacy. He emphasized that the LGBT community has a strong presence in political decision-making processes in the West, citing examples of government officials who proudly identify as homosexuals or are married to same-sex partners.
Wehbe went on to allege that the global homosexual movement wields considerable economic influence. He mentioned that key figures within the International Commission for Human Rights and other influential positions support and advocate for the movement’s objectives, furthering its agenda by placing like-minded individuals in decision-making roles.
These statements have raised concerns among conservative factions in Morocco, who fear that the government might attempt to legitimize homosexuality within the country. Critics argue that such a move could potentially clash with traditional values and religious principles deeply rooted in Moroccan society.
Additionally, international press reports have emerged, confirming that the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, maintains strong ties with the LGBT community.
