Algiers, Algeria | December 9th, 2024 — The 14th edition of the National Innovation Fair wrapped up, on Monday, at the University of Salah Boubnider, Constantine 3, with the awarding of prizes for the best inventions. Held from December 7 to 9, 2024, the event marked Algeria’s National Innovation Day, celebrated annually on December 7.
The fair was organized under the patronage of the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production and the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was spearheaded by the Algerian National Institute of Industrial Property (INAPI), in collaboration with Constantine 3 University and the Algeria Office of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
Over 100 participants, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), startups, project holders, and academics, showcased their groundbreaking innovations and inventions across various fields. The fair served as a dynamic platform fostering collaboration between inventors and industrialists, strengthening the integration of scientific research into industrial applications.
The highlight of the event was the distribution of awards recognizing exceptional inventions:
- First Prize was awarded to the University of Mohamed Seddik Ben Yahia, Jijel, for its development of an automated pyrolytic spray prototype. This cutting-edge invention represents a significant leap in material processing technologies.
- Second Prize went to an advanced post-combustion chamber designed to enhance the treatment of emissions from incinerating polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-contaminated oils. This innovation addresses critical environmental and public health concerns.
- Third Prize was secured by the Houari Boumediene University of Science and Technology for creating a photoluminescent coating that optimizes the efficiency of photovoltaic modules, reflecting Algeria’s commitment to advancing renewable energy technologies.
The National Innovation Fair underscores Algeria’s dedication to cultivating a culture of innovation and bridging the gap between research institutions and industrial sectors. By providing a stage for inventors and manufacturers to connect, the event not only propels scientific research but also paves the way for practical, impactful applications in the real world.
