Tiaret: Creation of aquaculture cooperative integrated into agriculture, 06 other projects approved

ALGIERS- A first fishing and aquaculture farming cooperative integrated into agriculture has been created in Tiaret, said the director of the fishing station, Abdelhamid Benamara, quoted this Thursday by the APS agency.

This cooperative called “Sersou” was recently founded by seven (7) farmers in accordance with the provisions of Executive Decree No. 22/405 dated November 24, 2022 aimed at developing their activity, added the same source.

The members of this cooperative are committed to working in such a way as to improve the professional conditions of the members, in particular with regard to the exchange of technical expertise and the establishment of contact with the parties concerned.

Creation of other cooperatives

According to Mr. Benamara, 13 other farmers working in the same field have submitted applications to create other cooperatives, namely “El Rostomia” and “Nadhor”. They intend to hold the respective founding meetings of their associations soon.

This initiative supported by the authorities aims to promote this experience to take advantage of agricultural irrigation water, rich in organic substances, released by fish, to become a fertilizer.

Six projects approved

At the same time, work is underway for a successful launch of investments in this area, knowing that 6 projects have had the approval of the competent authorities to concretize them in the areas of aquaculture activities in the municipalities of Serghine and Sebaïne, while 8 files are under study.
