Tindouf – The Ministry of Transport has given the green light for an expansion of flight services from Commander Ferradj Airport in Tindouf to the capital, Algiers. This entails the addition of two extra flights, effective April 1.

Responding to concerns raised by the local community, the Ministry of Transport, upon a proposal from Mustapha Dahou, the governor of Tindouf province, has endorsed the initiative to bolster air transportation infrastructure with supplementary routes. This move underscores the significance of air connectivity between Tindouf and Algiers International Airport.

As per announcements by Tindouf’s local authorities, the new flights will operate every Sunday and Wednesday, beginning April 1, 2024. Previously, the Ministry of Transport had unveiled plans for a new air corridor linking Algiers, Tindouf, and Adrar, with one flight per week. This development is in line with directives issued by the President of the Republic during his visit to Tindouf, aimed at meeting the transportation needs of residents and facilitating travel to and from the southern regions.

Additionally, efforts are being made to enhance Commander Ferradj Airport in Tindouf by introducing an international flight route to Nouakchott International Airport, the capital of Mauritania. This endeavor stems from suggestions put forward by entrepreneurs from both nations during the recent Algerian-Mauritanian Business Forum held in Tindouf. The decision to pursue this initiative coincides with the rising trade volume between Algeria and Mauritania, which reached $414 million in 2023, marking a significant increase from $297 million in 2022.
